 2018 Preview 


       Decatur Heritage Christian completed the 2017 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Decatur Heritage Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to South Lamar by a score of 40-39.

       Since 2010, Decatur Heritage Christian has gone a combined 49-38. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.




       The Eagles are led by head coach Steve Meek who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 48-31 over the past seven seasons at Decatur Heritage Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Meek.

       Coach Meek's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 65-64 (50.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Meek's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship.

       The Decatur Heritage Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2018 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Eagles open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Phillips Bear Creek on Friday, August 24 at Bulldog Stadium, Priceville. Last year the Phillips Bear Creek Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region eight. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Spring Garden by a score of 40-14.

       Decatur Heritage Christian and Phillips Bear Creek have met a total of 9 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 6-3-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2016 with Decatur Heritage Christian winning by a score of 35-8.
